Dr. Shane Patterson grew up in a small town in Ohio, with the dream of following in his grandfather’s footsteps and becoming an Osteopathic Physician. Upon completing medical school at Kansas City, Missouri, and residency at Henry Ford in Detroit, he founded Osteopathic Health Care Associates with the goal of establishing a medical practice that adheres to the osteopathic principle of treating the entire patient– mind, body, and spirit. Dr. Shane Patterson specializes in pain management using Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy (OMT). OMT is a musculoskeletal pain management technique that uses manual medicine to restore function to the body. Using palpatory examination and techniques, Dr. Patterson is able to identify and correct the areas of dysfunction, usually resulting in permanent pain relief. In discovering the areas of dysfunction, Dr. Patterson takes time to listen to patients, getting to know them and listening to how they feel. Headaches, low back pain, and other chronic ailments put stress on the body, leading to depression and disease. Understanding each patient’s living and working conditions, daily activities and eating habits provides the opportunity to create a plan that restores wellness in all aspects of each patient’s life. As the son of a psychology and OMT teacher, Dr. Patterson gained a special understanding of the side of medicine that involves mental and spiritual well-being as well as the physical, and he understands how they work together to affect how we feel. Traditional treatments that involve narcotics, anti-depressants, or physical therapy may provide temporary relief; however, they rarely provide a permanent resolution of symptoms. With Dr. Patterson and OMT, you will see dramatic improvement or complete resolution of your pain within three visits.
At Osteopathic Health Care Associates, we found it nearly impossible to spend adequate time with patients and still see a sufficient number of patients to keep the practice economically viable. Dr. Shane Patterson and the caring staff at Osteopathic Health Care Associates believe that you cannot properly treat patients unless you get to know them. Ours is a very patient-centered practice, and every test that needs to be done gets done, even though it may be considered “high tech medicine.” If you are worried about narcotic addiction after an injury, if chronic headaches are affecting your life, or you are ready to have a more healthful, meaningful relationship with your physician, call Osteopathic Health Care Associates today at 586.221.2791, or complete the contact form for a call back from our office staff to schedule your appointment.
